Anyways, my sisters talked me into running a marathon and earning money for cancer research. Its a crazy challenge, but all FIVE of us are going to do it and we’re going to document it all the way. This is mostly for your entertainment. Why? Because it’ll be funny watching five out of shape siblings struggle to be ready for the 26.2 miles that are staring us down.

Check out our site… fiveintraining.com and oh yeah. Donate to us!

For those of you who haven’t heard yet, we’re having a girl. We’re so excited! When I got home from work the day we found out, I hopped online and made sure she would have some proper attire to support her favorite team. These little onesies probably cost a bit more than they should have, but I gotta make sure this girl starts out on the right base, pun intended, and loves the Dodgers.

Because they are a little big, they probably won’t get worn until opening day 2010, but hopefully the Dodgers will still be playing when she is born in October.

I recently was looking at downtown SLC and what the top of my office building looks like on google maps. While I had the map up, I scrolled over to Temple Square to see how that looked from above. What I found was a little weird. The Salt Lake temple and the old tabernacle are at an angled perspective and you can see the sides of the buildings. In all of my searching on Google Maps and Google Earth I’ve never seen another building like this. The images of most buildings are from a straight down view, even the other buildings on temple square are like this.

At first I thought it might be because Temple Square is a tourist destination and they wanted to show more of the sides of the temple, but after more investigation of tourist attractions and famous buildings, I still wasn’t able to find anything like this.

Does anyone have an explanation? I was even curious enough about this to look on Google to try to find someone to ask but wasn’t able to find any good contact info.

Check it out here.

Last night my parents were in town, so we joined them for a great burger dinner at 5 guys a burger place that has just started franchising their restaurants and has finally moved from being solely an East Coast joint. This has little to do with my actual post, but man they are good burgers.

Conversation with my dad for those of you that know him, often leads to political ranting. Last night was no exception. I’d like to discuss one of the topics that really made me a bit angry, the delay of the transfer of television broadcast signals from analog to digital. So one of the first things that Obama did when he entered office was proposed and somehow managed to pass the DTV delay. Why? Well because apparently too many people aren’t ready and if the switch occurred they wouldn’t be able to receive network television. WHO CARES? Last time I checked television was not a necessity. The new administration tried to make it sound like making the switch would be like cutting off the only water supply to a remote village or something. I know plenty of people who get by without tv and are fine.

These are a few of my complaints with the system.

Again, TV is not a necessity.

Do they honestly think that the unprepared are going to rush out and get their TV sets up to date now that they have another 5 months? Unlikely.

Is the 1.8 billion the government has already spent not enough? There is rumor that Washington will pump more money into this program to make sure that people can handle the switch.

What about the millions TV stations, TV manufacturers, retailers and others have spent in advertising throughout the last year on this issue. Anyone who has TV knows that these spots have been running ALL the time. That money seems kind of wasted, and now they’ll probably have to run new spots.

So what about all TV stations and American public that have spent time and money upgrading their equipment to be ready to the switch? Nothing. The prepared and self reliant are once again punished for those who are not. Is anyone else seeing this general trend more and more these days?

Is it weird that I’ve never been to an optometrist? I didn’t think so. I always passed the vision tests in elementary school with flying colors and I can see pretty well. So after being nudged along by my wife an appointment was made and I set off for my first visit. I really only did it for her, she was concerned as only a good wife would be, but I was convinced my eyes were fine. I was right. It was funny because after reading my eye history the doctor was like “why are you even here”?

I guess it doesn’t hurt anything to make sure that my eyeballs are ship-shape. I was kind of sad when my appointment was over though. Even though I got to use almost every torture looking device they had in the office, I didn’t get to see what they use the wall mounted cannon for.
