What could be better than attending two snowboard video premieres in a week? Flying halfway accross the country to attend one of the two with some best friends.

Last Friday my wife and I flew to Minneapolis for the weekend to see a few good friends and to check out a new HD snowboard video That’s It, That’s All. What a great freakin movie. It features pretty much all mountain riding and some huge kickers. Seriously probably the best snowboard movie I’ve ever seen.

After a few days of recovery from the busy weekend in MN, we checked out the Burton premiere of It’s Always Snowing Somewhere, which was pretty good, but not even close to That’s It, That’s All. I was actually a little bummed about the event too. Compared to last year’s Burton event, this one was prety lame. Last year they had awesome door prizes and gave away tons of free stuff. This year about 10 t-shirts were thrown into the crowd. I’m not one to expect free stuff at these events, but it sure does make it more fun. Did I mention that I won a jacket and pants from the Minnesota premiere?

Anyways these videos have had me dreaming of the upcoming snowboarding season. The mountains have a bit of snow and looking at them every day has been fueling the fire. Man I’m so ready for it to dump some major powder in the Wasatch Mountains and start shredding.

Yesterday morning I was in downtown Salt Lake City sitting at a red light. I couldn’t help but notice the person in front of me had a bumper sticker supporting a certain presidential candidate. I think its great that they are supporting “mr. presidential candidate”. However, when the arrow flashes green this car sits there still as be, the driver talking on his cell phone while the rest of us are missing our opportunity to advance.
Who do I look to blame? Well, its Mr. “presidential candidate”, the only name or assotiation I can pin to the guy in front of me.

A note to those who support their favorite candidates on their bumper. When you drive like an idiot, your hurting your party.

Today at work I noticed some unusual activity at 222 South Main. This is a building that’s going up downtown and will soon block the sun from my window for most of the morning. I’ve been unofficially documenting the progress of this building and find it interesting. Like I said today was a little different, they were expanding the crane and making it taller. I saw them bring up expansion pieces one by one, but because I was at work trying to get things done, I never saw what happened after they brought the piece up. No matter how i tried to time my glances out the window, I always saw the same thing, them bringing up a piece. I never once saw what they did with the piece once they got it up there, but sure enough, the crane was getting taller.

After an afternoon of frustration, I finally turned to youtube and found a nice time lapse video that shows all the parts of the process I was missing.

I hope you find this as intriguing as I do.

Today I read an article that made me shutter at how ridiculous people can be. Especially people involved in PETA. This article may have been a publicity stunt, if it was it worked, it was all over the web including a NYC news station http://www.wnbc.com/news/17539627/detail.html. In a nutshell, it suggests that ice cream maker Ben and Jerry’s use human breast milk instead of traditional cow milk. Since you’re reading my post and probably care at least a little about what I have to say, I think I’ll make a short list about why I think this is incredibly dumb.

Ben and Jerry’s is already making more effort than most of the other guys to make sure their cows aren’t given hormones. Give them a break and go after someone else.

According to the article cows are being punished by being milked. Anyone care to tell me how the all the ladies being milked are going to feel about being milked.

If its so bad for cows to be milked how is it going to be better for people? Does PETA really care more about cows than their own species?

Cows udders hold a bit of milk. Just given the size ratio alone, they are going to have to line up a lot of willing ladies to replace cow milk with breast milk.

Seriously, who in the world has the stomach to eat a pint of Ben and Jerry’s newest flavors? Gag me.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for treating animals humanely (then having them for dinner). I just think that some people get so carried away with it that they stop using common sense.

As a regrettable side note, I did sign a PETA petition once for something at warped tour because they were giving away free dvd’s. Yes, I fell for the scam and scored what turned out to be a crappy dvd which lacked music, then entire selling point, and pushed their radical agenda.

The past few weeks have been pretty interesting. It all started with a Friday night hockey game. A supposedly safe game, a senior rec. league, a no checking league… yeah. Even though it was a low key game, it didn’t stop me from skating hard like a fool and breaking myself up. After picking myself up off the ice, I was pretty sure I had broken my collar bone. Running my finger along the bone was quite interesting, like a touch game of now you see it now you don’t. The E.R. visit and the x-ray’s confirmed my suspicions. The doctor recommended that I see an orthopedic surgeon and I did. A week later I was being prepped for surgery. The surgery went pretty well, until I was waking up and the pain meds they gave me almost put me back out. Apparently a pulse of 30 BPM isn’t something they like to see. After I insisted that I was starting to feel better they let me go home and I’ve been here ever since, at camp slouchy shoulder, a little fort I built on my couch with the help of my wonderful wife, who by the way has been amazing through this whole ordeal.

These are the before and after pictures of my surgery. I’m pretty sure I’m gonna be setting off the airport alarms for sure now!

I was suprised when I first heard of this Utah tradition and couldn’t believe it was actually celebrated. I had always wondered about what people were talking about this “Pioneer Day”. Utah doesn’t play around with this one folks. Its a pretty big deal around here, actually its a huge deal. I don’t think I’m going out on a limb when I say that it gets more celebration and attention than July 4th. The parade is bigger, the fireworks are bigger, stores are empty, its crazy. The only problem with this holiday is that apart from Utah/Idaho, Pioneer Day isn’t recognized and corporations with employees all over the states don’t really care as much for the holiday as those with pioneer heritage. Needless to say I’ve spent my last two and only two Pioneer Days at work.

A few Saturday’s ago I didn’t feel like showering. Kill me. I did however feel like going to get a tasty burger at Five Guys, Utah’s newest burger joint (Five Guys is of course a well established chain on the east coast).

Because I didn’t feel like showering and washing my out of control hair, I did the next best thing. I threw on the only hat I could find. Select Series it was. This bright red hat just happened to match my bright red shirt. Needless to say I was looking rosy and probably like i couldn’t dress myself. But seriously, I would rather look like I can’t dress myself any day of the week than look like I can’t clean myself.

The best part about my clothes for the outing was the fact that I perfectly matched everyone behind the counter at Five Guys.
