muggn is my new favorite site. i was introduced to it last week by a co-worker and i have to admit i’ve been back a few times since. i’m talking hours of entertainment. i could go on for hours about this site, but you’ll just have to check it out for yourself.
parental advisory: the pictures are hilarious, but some of the comments are crude.
I recently was looking at downtown SLC and what the top of my office building looks like on google maps. While I had the map up, I scrolled over to Temple Square to see how that looked from above. What I found was a little weird. The Salt Lake temple and the old tabernacle are at an angled perspective and you can see the sides of the buildings. In all of my searching on Google Maps and Google Earth I’ve never seen another building like this. The images of most buildings are from a straight down view, even the other buildings on temple square are like this.
At first I thought it might be because Temple Square is a tourist destination and they wanted to show more of the sides of the temple, but after more investigation of tourist attractions and famous buildings, I still wasn’t able to find anything like this.
Does anyone have an explanation? I was even curious enough about this to look on Google to try to find someone to ask but wasn’t able to find any good contact info.
Is it weird that I’ve never been to an optometrist? I didn’t think so. I always passed the vision tests in elementary school with flying colors and I can see pretty well. So after being nudged along by my wife an appointment was made and I set off for my first visit. I really only did it for her, she was concerned as only a good wife would be, but I was convinced my eyes were fine. I was right. It was funny because after reading my eye history the doctor was like “why are you even here”?
I guess it doesn’t hurt anything to make sure that my eyeballs are ship-shape. I was kind of sad when my appointment was over though. Even though I got to use almost every torture looking device they had in the office, I didn’t get to see what they use the wall mounted cannon for.
Try being on cruise in the Caribbean and leaving 80º weather to come home to an iced over car that will barely start and a balmy 20º temperature. Now thats a slap in the face.
I figured that my Simpsons trivia year calendar would just end at December 31st. Now I’m sitting here wondering if it is still 2008 or if it has in fact turned 2009. These blank pages have just thrown off my entire universe. My head hurts.
Today at work I noticed some unusual activity at 222 South Main. This is a building that’s going up downtown and will soon block the sun from my window for most of the morning. I’ve been unofficially documenting the progress of this building and find it interesting. Like I said today was a little different, they were expanding the crane and making it taller. I saw them bring up expansion pieces one by one, but because I was at work trying to get things done, I never saw what happened after they brought the piece up. No matter how i tried to time my glances out the window, I always saw the same thing, them bringing up a piece. I never once saw what they did with the piece once they got it up there, but sure enough, the crane was getting taller.
After an afternoon of frustration, I finally turned to youtube and found a nice time lapse video that shows all the parts of the process I was missing.
I was on a flight this morning to LAX and sleeping when my wife snapped this picture of me. I realized a few things about myself. First apparently when I lean my head back to get some rest my neck disappears, and second when I trim my sideburns they don’t quite attach to my hairline. I am one ugly dude.
As a side note, this is the first post I’ve created remotely with my iPhone and the new WordPress application which is pretty smooth. I am actually sitting on the plane still while they wait for our gate.
Today in the great state of Utah, Pioneer Day is celebrated. This is the day that the Mormon pioneers first entered the Salt Lake Valley. I was suprised when I first heard of this Utah tradition and couldn’t believe it was actually celebrated. I had always wondered about what people were talking about this “Pioneer Day”. Utah doesn’t play around with this one folks. Its a pretty big deal around here, actually its a huge deal. I don’t think I’m going out on a limb when I say that it gets more celebration and attention than July 4th. The parade is bigger, the fireworks are bigger, stores are empty, its crazy. The only problem with this holiday is that apart from Utah/Idaho, Pioneer Day isn’t recognized and corporations with employees all over the states don’t really care as much for the holiday as those with pioneer heritage. Needless to say I’ve spent my last two and only two Pioneer Days at work.
A few Saturday’s ago I didn’t feel like showering. Kill me. I did however feel like going to get a tasty burger at Five Guys, Utah’s newest burger joint (Five Guys is of course a well established chain on the east coast).
Because I didn’t feel like showering and washing my out of control hair, I did the next best thing. I threw on the only hat I could find. Select Series it was. This bright red hat just happened to match my bright red shirt. Needless to say I was looking rosy and probably like i couldn’t dress myself. But seriously, I would rather look like I can’t dress myself any day of the week than look like I can’t clean myself.
The best part about my clothes for the outing was the fact that I perfectly matched everyone behind the counter at Five Guys.
is it just me or did anyone else feel completely ripped off by network television this season? i’m not a huge television watcher. when i do watch its usually sports, and there are a a few select sitcoms that i enjoy.
needless to say this fall when the writers strike occurred i was bummed, but i thought like all things it would pass. as i predicted, the networks and writers reached their agreement (i think they just agreed that they all make way more money than me) and resumed their seasons only to END THEM! what the crap is that about? i’m looking forward to a season of my favorite shows, not a few episodes placed around months of reruns and bad tv. can’t the oh, so hurting networks give their fans a break? it is their fans that are ultimately their source of income.
i better stop before i become too bitter. still, 5 bucks says they charge the same ridiculous price for the watered down season next fall when it comes out on dvd.
