a state holiday for some…
Today in the great state of Utah, Pioneer Day is celebrated. This is the day that the Mormon pioneers first entered the Salt Lake Valley. I was suprised when I first heard of this Utah tradition and couldn’t believe it was actually celebrated. I had always wondered about what people were talking about this “Pioneer Day”. Utah doesn’t play around with this one folks. Its a pretty big deal around here, actually its a huge deal. I don’t think I’m going out on a limb when I say that it gets more celebration and attention than July 4th. The parade is bigger, the fireworks are bigger, stores are empty, its crazy. The only problem with this holiday is that apart from Utah/Idaho, Pioneer Day isn’t recognized and corporations with employees all over the states don’t really care as much for the holiday as those with pioneer heritage. Needless to say I’ve spent my last two and only two Pioneer Days at work.

Not true- we used to get pioneer day off when we were in school but the Utah versions- yes they were both spent at SkyWest- in fact last year’s pioneer day was your first day of work- so happy SkyWest anniversary!
